个人与社会（Individuals & Societies）是IB MYP中的一项课程。WAB在这项课程的教学中为学生提供个性化的选择，这既是为了让学生适应不同学习风格，也是为了促进学生更深入地参与学习。
Individuals & Societies is an integrated humanities class taken by Middle School students as part of the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP). It encourages learners to respect and understand the world around them and equips them with the necessary skills to inquire into historical, geographical, political, social, economic, and cultural factors that affect individuals, societies, and environments.
WAB explores how I&S is personalized to give students choices to accommodate a wide range of learning styles, while promoting deeper engagement in the learning. Grade 6 I&S teacher Zachary Maxwell, and Grade 6 students Kenzie and Max join this week’s conversation, exploring the impact personalization has on their learning.
“When a student’s learning becomes more personal, more relatable, more tangible and realistic, not so foreign or abstract, it becomes more useful,” said Zachary Maxwell.
The IB’s approach to I&S includes a strong focus on inquiry and investigation. Giving students choices to take responsibility and ownership over their learning is an important part of the process. As Max explains:
“The thing I really, really, like about I&S classes is that we get to choose who we want to work with or where we sit in the classroom, [and] we get to learn from each other.”
Throughout the conversation, the students also give an overview of the units they are taking this year, and explore the elements that are driving their joy for learning. Make sure to tune in!
